The Rhodians have been performing together originally since 1963. Mike Simon age 14, Basil Simon age
12 and George Karpathios age 10. Since then, the Rhodians have traveled and performed in over 40 States, Canada
and Greece. They have been featured on many television and radio stations as well. Many articles have been written
about the talents the band has had over the years, and continues to do so. The Rhodians have also been a catalist
for begining "Greek" musicians, to get a start in the Greek music industry. Over the years the Rhodians have
helped many young musicians begin their own bands and to keep the traditions ongoing in America. (like the Levendes,
the Grecian Guards, Enigma, the Jr. Rhodians, and more) With the addition of Nick and Vasili, The Rhodians
continue to promote young talented Greek musicians onto the stage. They have also been very instrumental in holding
various fund raising activities for many Greek churches and organizations, donating thousands of dollars to needy families.
Wanting
to showcase their new young talent, the Rhodians recorded and released "GENESIS" in the
summer of 2000. A CD featuring their NEW singer, Nick Karpathios and Bouzouki player Vasili Gerazounis
and the hits of that year. Spring of 2002 the Rhodians released their 10th recording to date, titling it,"VASTA HIERIA" (Let's hold hands). Featuring some of the latest
popular songs from Greece, and 9 classics, set as dance medleys.
Over the years, the Rhodians notariety developed
as a "FESTIVAL" band. Creating festival shows of one-of-a-kind. This brought the band to new levels
as they traveled through out the country performing their show. As time went by, the show was adapted to the community
and area of the country where they perfomed. One of the common statements throughout their travels were, "you guys
look like you're having fun up there". AND WE WERE! Many times we were having so
much fun performing the show, that it rubbed off on the audience and they would start dancing in their seats. This same
enthousiasm continues today!
The clarinetist George Karpathios, the only remaining original member
of the band is a "Virtuoso" Soloist himself. After popular demand, George recorded his solo CD in 2003 titling it, George's
"MEMORIES". This much sought-after recording features instrumental clarinet classics
from years past. George recorded not one, but three clarinet part harmonies. Not heard of in recorded Greek music.
